First Government-Owned Satellite Network To Be Launched In 2018


On December 6, 2017, Presidential Communications Operations Office Head Martin Andanar said that President Rodrigo Duterte approved the launch of the national government's satellite network or GSN that will be launched in 2018.

According to the PCOO head, the president said yes during the 20th Cabinet Meeting that was held at Malacanang last December 5, 2017.

GSN will be headed by veteran journalist and PCOO Head Martin Andanar. It will showcase a well-connected Philippines that will be felt even by the ordinary citizens.

Andanar added that GSN will be the government's tool to showcase their curated content. These are in the form of videos, photos, audio that will be broadcasted all throughout the country. Special enhancement will be done eben for remote areas, using "advanced satellite and Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) technology."
"The GSN can transmit government video, image, audio, and data content to the islands and hinterlands of the Philippines and the rest of the world using advanced satellite and IPTV technology."
The satellite will be providing a two way or multiple tele-conference communication, internet delivery capability and multiple TV channels.

Andanar also added that the state-owned satellite network (GSN) will be inaugurated in around 42,000 villages' halls, along with all the PCOO's attached agencies, and offices all throughout the country in six months. This is if all necessary and legal works on top of the bidding processes can be "ironed out."
